Experimental and Numerical Investigations on Metal Flow during Direct Extrusion of EN AW-6082

This paper investigates the effect of friction on metal flow during direct extrusion of aluminum alloy AlMgSi1 (EN AW-6082). Using visioplasticity and FEA methods with varying ram speed, displacement and billet temperature, experiments with indicator pins and 10MN press, simufact.forming 8.1 simulation. Experimental and numerical strain results agree well.

Aluminum Extrusions for Automotive Crash Applications

Aluminum extrusions are widely used in automotive crash structures. This paper studies extrusion behavior of 6xxx alloys under various processing parameters (artificial aging, quench rate, etc.). Results show linear relationship between average extrusion force and tensile strength; true fracture strain better predicts cracking sensitivity than elongation; water quenching significantly improves fracture strain; AA6008 performs well.

Effect of Microstructure on the Performance of Corrosion Resistant Alloys

Aluminum pitting corrosion is affected by multiple factors. This study explores the role of composition and microstructure on passive film formation and local corrosion sensitivity. OCP transient, potentiodynamic polarization and salt spray tests on 3003, 5049, 6061, 6063 alloys; extreme value theory for data analysis. Results show corrosion behavior correlates with composition and microstructure; Gumbel distribution suitable for predicting component life; 6061 shows bimodal pitting depth distribution.
